21 years ago today, the Flamenco world lost a legend.  Camarón de la Isla passed away on July 2, 1992 after his battle with cancer.  For those of you who are new to Flamenco, the reason Camarón is so important is that you can argue that Flamenco can be divided into a "Before" and an "After Camarón".  He, along with guitarist Paco de Lucía, was instrumental in bringing Flamenco to the international community.

As I wrote in my last entry, Camarón is the reason I decided Flamenco was for me.  I heard him sing, and saw the raw emotion on his face and I needed to know more.

Below are a few You Tube clips to enjoy.  In the first video, shot in 1976, he even speaks briefly about how he felt that people weren't quite yet understanding his singing, but that expressing emotion in his song was what was most important to him.  I think the world eventually got it.  I know I did when I first heard it.

Enjoy and have a beautiful day!
